The Last Dance

The Fracking Redundants Art Gallery, 2014

This exhibition depicts the final night of performances and the closing down of Petersham’s Oxford Tavern on 7 August 2013. After decades of offering topless service and free, live strip performances from showgirls 3-7 days per week, the Oxford held its final Tuesday night, The Last Dance. Customers queued down Crystal Street and drank the kegs dry. Its closure prompted a stripper reunion with dancers travelling across Australia to pay tribute alongside curious or committed locals coming to say goodbye. Its closure changed the character of the neighbourhood forever. RIP Oxford Tavern.
